the center-focus page
As its name implies, this page layout draws your eye to the center of the page.
You will simply create or add a focal piece of art to the center of the page and then write your text in the space surrounding the center.
This template can be a fun option when you:
have a favorite piece of art that you would like to feature.
would like to make a full-page spread
have a lot to say about a particular topic
Two journaling methods
I have further broken this template into two main ways of journaling around the center item - pinwheel style and running-text style.
pinwheel style
Any pages with lines further delineating the text into sections, is what I would call a “pinwheel style.”
Some of my pages look like a true pinwheel, where I’ve used a straight edge to draw multiple lines from a center point out to the edge of the paper.
Other times, I’ve just made two center lines - one dividing the page from top to bottom and the other from left to right. This, effectively, divides the paper into four quadrants.
When I divide pages this way, my journaling tends to consist of a separate (but related) piece of text in each divided section.
I divide my pages first and fill them in after, but if you are concerned about spacing you could always draw one line, start writing, and then add your next line when you’ve come to the end of your text.
running-text style
For “running-text” center-focused pages, I add the art piece to the center of the layout and then write from left to right, top to bottom around the art.
You can decide how much margin you’d like to leave around the art piece as well as how much you’d like to leave around the edges of the page.
I think of journal pages designed with this template to be a “one topic” journal page and usually write one big block of text (on a single topic) on the page.
bonus: Try a text-centered focus
Have just a few important words you want to be your focal point?
You can easily invert this template by making the text the focus of your page and adding color around the text. Again, you could make this pinwheel style or fill in the entire page with a single color.
